Sony to release home NAS

Sony, the not so profitable anymore, tech giant from Japan will release a home NAS in July. The device dubbed the Nasne, will cost about $210 will have a build-in 500 GB HDD. Besides providing connected storage it comes with a tuner for cable and satellite TV and the ability to record TV shows through special applications for the Playstation 3 and Vaio PC’s. The recorded shows can be viewed back with the Playstation 3, Vaio PC’s, Xperia phones, Sony tables and the Playstation Vita and it can serve multiple live streams at once. Recorded shows can also be burned to e.g. Blu-ray discs.

Recording can be done through a television web guide with connected (mobile) devices it supports DLNA and connects to your network either with Ethernet or Wifi.

Sony doesn't like us when we download/copy their movies, but downloading a TV show/movie is OK.

And it doesn't support windows networking, linux networking, and only provides storage of files with sony approved extensions jpg, wmv, m2ts, avi or mp4 (stereo audio channels only).


Wtf it's anyone going to do with 500GB of hdd space. My holiday photos/videos from the last 5 yrs chews that up ...
