SSD prices drop 20% compared to August - $0.35 per GB for cheapest drive

The Myce SSD Price Index shows that the cheapest SSD in our list is now 20% cheaper than in August. The Samsung 840 EVO with a capacity of 1TB remains the lowest priced SSD. The drive was sold for $443.89 ($0.44) in August, while currently the drive is priced $349.99 ($0.35).  myce-ssd-price-per-gb-december2

In March this year we started with our SSD price index where we monitor prices of popular SSDs on Amazon.com. Back then the Crucial M500 960GB topped our list while in August the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB was the lowest priced SSD, just like now.

The Crucial M500, second and third in respectively March and August  is also a SSD that's provides value for money. The same goes for  SSDs from Kingston. At the bottom of our list the OCZ Vertex 450 SSDs remain relative expensive just like the Samsung 840 Pro drives. The difference in price per GB between the cheapest drive and the most expensive drive is $0.73

Currently we have 8 drives below $0.50 per GB (marked in green) while in March this year only three drives were below that price.

The competitive SSD market seems to be beneficial for consumers with prices dropping fast. It's expected that the introduction of 3D NAND will also have a positive effect on SSD prices.
