Steam survey: Intel and Nvidia most popular - Ouch AMD!

Valve has released the result of their monthly hardware and software survey. The survey results are collected from Steam users of whose computers anonymously send data to the Valve servers. The data is used by Valve  to make decisions about what kinds of technology investments to make and products to offer. Also for us it's interesting as it shows what kind of hardware people have and software they use.

AMD seems to be clearly the underdog, only 36% of the users of Steam use an AMD (ATI) graphics card while Nvidia is much more popular with 47% taken. Of all video cards, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 (4.6%) was the single most popular card followed by the Intel HD Graphics 3000 (3.5%).  AMD's most popular video card is the  Radeon HD 5770.

When it comes to CPUs, Intel is the clear winner with 72% of the Steam users making use of its processors while AMD makes up for 28%. Of these CPUs 51% is dualcore and 38% is quadcore, 7% of the Steam gamers is still on a single core. The most frequently found clockspeeds are in the 2.3 Ghz to 2.69 Ghz range.

Interestingly enough the majority (63%)  of Steam users are using Firefox. Chrome  is installed on 11.6% of the systems and 19.8% of the users on Internet explorer. Get more statistics here and share interesting find in the comments below.
