Super Talent launches TeraDrive CT SSD line

Super Talent has released a new line of solid-state drives that are aimed at the desktop and notebook markets, promising faster speeds and larger storage capacities than rival products.

The new TeraDrive CT line of SSDs use the SandForce SF-1222 controller and have an impressive 285 MB/sec read speed and 275 MB/ sec write speed.

The new drives use the SATA-II 3Gbps interface, according to the Super Talent press release, with the drive built using MLC NAND flash.  The newer flash memory utilizes a better firmware that allows the company to increase the storage capacity of the drives -- older drives had lower storage capacities.

Super Talent's new TeraDrive CT line is being promoted as the company's fastest desktop/laptop upgrade SSD.  The product is targeting customers who are looking to switch from HDDs to flash-based drive technology.

The Super Talent 60GB CT SATA is available for $199; the 120GB model is $349; 240GB model is $669; and the 480GB model has a price that says to contact Super Talent directly.  The pricing is a bit high, but better storage capacities and fast read/write speeds could help convince some people to make the jump.

This is a strong move from Super Talent, which has quietly built a strong offering for customers and businesses looking to switch to SSDs.  The company announced two new SSD lines in 2008, and even though prices were high, helped introduce a wider number of consumers to SSDs.  Since then, the company has promoted both HDD and SSD products, with further announcements expected later this summer.  Super Talent hasn't left HDDs alone completely, and also said it will support the USB 3.0 platform.
