Super Talent expands its USB 3.0 portfolio

Super Talent has expanded its product lineup of USB 3.0 products by announcing a new Express Drive flash product, as the company establishes itself as one of the largest USB 3.0 supporters.

The new USB 3.0 keys will be available in 16GB or 32GB storage capacities, with transfer speeds up to 125MB/s.  The Super Talent marketing hype says owners will be able to transfer a 600MB movie in 12 seconds -- but sustained transfer rates will most likely be lower than the max speed of 125MB/s. Write speeds are up to 50MB/s, the company noted.

"This product underscores Super Talent's continued leadership in the USB 3.0 storage market," said C.H. Lee, Super Talent COO, in a statement.  "We've listened to our customers and responded with a USB 3.0 product that not only meets but hits the balance point between price and performance."

As expected from most USB 3.0 products, the USB 3.0 Express Drive will be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1.

Super Talent was the first tech company to introduce USB 3.0 flash drives during an
announcement a few months ago - even though current demand for USB 3.0 is minimal at best.  The technology provides transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, but unfortunately there aren't many computers currently shipping with USB 3.0 hardware yet.

Nonetheless, more and more manufacturers are beginning to roll out USB 3.0 products, with external HDDs and flash drives serving as the most popular consumer products.  We've seen USB 3.0 product announcements from HP, Western Digital, PQI, Brando, OCZ and a handful of other companies.

Eventually most companies will jump on the USB 3.0 bandwagon, but for now many appear to be waiting until the "Super Speed" technology is integrated into the majority of new computers in the market.
