The drives connect to the computer using the SATA-3 interface. The HDDs contain two platters, have a buffer of 16 MB and rotate at 5400 RPM.  Those RPMs are achieved using a  thinner mechanical structure containing a new 5400 RPM spindle motor which is housed within a newly designed rigid chassis that, according to Toshiba, keeps noise levels to 22 dB during idle and 23 dB during seek operations.

Toshiba claims an average drive ready time in 3.0 seconds (typical) and average seek times of 12ms.

Sample shipment of the new family of high-capacity, slim HDDs is scheduled to start in November, Toshiba has not disclosed any other availablity and pricing details.
