Toshiba announces world’s first 19nm MLC NAND Flash SSD drives

04 Jun 12 17:03 by in category Solid State (ssd)

Toshiba today announced THNSNF, world’s first family of solid state drives (SSDs) with a 19nm NAND Flash process. The drives will become available in two formfactors,  one of  9.5mm height and  one of  7.0mm height with a capacity range of 64,128, 256 and 512 GB. Also a mSATA drive will become available which will have a capacity of either 64,128 or 256GB. The drives are utilising Toshiba’s Multi-Level Cell (MLC) 19nm NAND technology which offers read transfer rates of 524 MB/s and write transfer rates of up to 461 MB/s.

The THNSNF range of SSDs features support for the TRIM command and Toshiba’s QSBCTM (Quadruple Swing-By Code), an method of  Error Correction Code (ECC) protecting against any read errors in the device. With an additional ‘data corrupt protection’ feature, the THNSNF SSDs range protects any data which is being moved internally, against unexpected power-loss and write errors.
