Toshiba today introduced two new 2.5" hybrid hard disk drives with a height of 7 mm. The disks contain a cache of 8 GB of NAND memory. The MQ01ABFH series are the first hybrid low profile HDDs of Toshiba.
Because the HDDs are only 7 mm thin they are well suited for Ultrabook and other computers with small form factors, such as All-in-One PCs. The Solid State Hyrbid Disks (SSHDs) are available in capacities of 320 and 500 GB with a buffer of 32 MB and a cache of 8 GB of NAND.
Due to the addition of the NAND cache, Toshiba claims SSD-like performance and responsiveness. The company also adds that the cache is filled with data that comes from an 'usage pattern optimization self learning caching algorythm'. They connect to the computer using the SATA-3 interface, have a specified seek time of 12 ms and rotate at 5400 RPM. Toshiba gives a 3 year warranty but no word on pricing and availability.
