Transcend CEO: SSD prices to drop 20-30% this year

According to the CEO of SSD manufacturer Transcend, prices of SSDs will drop up to 30% this year. Peter Shu, CEO of the company, told Digitimes that he believes SSDs will see a strong growth this year due to falling NAND flash prices. According to Shu this is caused by oversupply of NAND memory.

Prices of SSDs would drop 20% to 30%, according to Shu, while in 2013 prices already dropped 30%. He also added that demand for 256GB drives will surge if their price drops below $100. Transcend isn't the best known  brand name for SSDs, but the company currently ships 100,000 drives a month. Of those, 50% are for industrial models and the other 50% is for the consumer market.

The company is also active in the memory cards and flash drive business and believes it can expand in that market because several smaller manufacturers have withdrawn from the market.
