Ubisoft says no always on DRM for Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Ubisoft is well known for having restrictive DRM on their PC games, forcing players to be on the internet in order to play, even in the single player game modes. It seems that all of the vitriol directed at the company for that "always on" DRM has payed off. Ubisoft has announced that they will not employ that scheme with the soon to be released Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

When Assassin's Creed: Revelations launches on PC next month it will not require the player to be constantly online in order to play the game. All that will be required is a one time activation, the first time the game is launched. Originally Ubisoft promised this same exact thing for the game From Dust, released this year, but they backtracked on that promise requiring players to be online to play the title.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun received the news from Ubisoft about the DRM for Assassin's Creed: Revelations on PC. The console version of the game launches the beginning of next week but we won't see the PC version until December 2nd.  That means Ubisoft still has a little under a month to blow another promise about DRM.

I'm cynical enough to take this news with a grain of salt considering the past broken promises by Ubisoft. What's more, the company has defended their "always on" DRM in the past, so it's actually surprising that they would choose not to use that scheme for a high profile game like Revelations.

Do you believe Ubisoft will keep their promise this time or are you unwilling to trust them again? Tell us how you feel in the comments.
