Unofficial Windows XP "Service Pack 4" released

Although Microsoft is not updating Windows XP anymore since April this year, a developer has released an unofficial Service Pack 4 for the operating system. According to the Greek developer "Harkaz" contains SP4 all official updates Microsoft released for Windows XP.

"Windows XP official support has ended. Many users - including me - who won't be able to upgrade their old machines to a newer OS would like to easily install all Windows updates in one convenient package. For this reason, I started working on a Service Pack 4 package", Harkaz writes on the RyanVM forum. The unofficial Service Pack 4 is currently in its third beta and requires a download of 827 MB.

The developers warns people that his Service Pack isn't supported at all by Microsoft and that the company will likely advise not to install it but for users that are still on Windows XP and don't plan to upgrade it's an excellent way to secure their system again.

To install the unofficial SP4 at least the official Service Pack 1 needs to be installed. It's also possible to slipstream the unofficial Windows XP Service Pack in an install package so the system is update directly after the installation.
