Firefox 38 to warn for add-ons that slow down browser

Future versions of Firefox will warn users for add-ons that slow down the browser. The new feature was discovered by Sören Hentzschel in an early test version of Firefox 38. Users will receive a warning when the browser starts stating the affected add-on can slow down Firefox. Users then receive the option to disable to the add-on, to ignore the warning for once or permanently.

The warning appears to be shown as soon as the add-on exceeds a certain value. First tests revealed warnings were shown for Adblock Plus, Nightly and Multi Links. Users who have a lot of add-ons installed could possible also receive lots of warnings.

In the current test version its not possible to disable the warning but it's possible to change the value that controls when the warning are shown. The definitive version of Firefox 38 is planned for May this year. Whether this feature will be part of that version is unknown for now.
