Upgrade to Windows 8 for $39.99

02 Jul 12 22:08 by Kerry56 in category Software

Microsoft will be offering a discount to upgrade your computer to Windows 8.  The upgrade will be  available to those running Windows XP, Vista, or Win 7 presently.  This low price of $39.99 only applies to downloaded copies of the operating system.  If you want a physical disc from Microsoft, the upgrade version of Windows 8 will cost $69.99.  This offer will be good through January 31, 2013, in 131 different markets around the world.

Microsoft will also have an online upgrade  assistant, to make certain that your system is compatible with Windows 8.

Windows Media Center is no longer offered as part of the Windows 8 operating system, and will normally cost more if you want to add it, but in combination with this limited time upgrade offer, you can download Media Center for no cost.

The story can be seen at the Windows Blog.

I remember when Windows 7 was hated and pronounced dead on forums around the world, now look whats happened. XP Pro was all the rage, noone wanted to let it go, the future is ahead, either go with it, or at least give it a chance, you can use any OS for a month before you have to sell your soul. LOL.

For $40 that is actually a deal. Not everybody is going to hate metro and you can download it and put it on a tablet...I have an old slate that runs windows 7...i might actually try this

For some reason Microsoft thinks my desktop computer has turned into a Windows phone from the looks of Windows 8.

Copying apple again, this time by reasonably pricing the O/S.

Mac OSX is 29 bucks for the full version and always has been.

I still can't run any of the CAD software I use on on any Mac OS's. Rhino3D 5.0 is actually in Beta form and FREE to use for Mac's but it is buggy, and McNeel isn't even thinking about releasing 5.0 this year for P.C's, Mac's will be another two years away. Pepakura (a program used for modeling paper craft) does not work on any Mac system. Mac's cannot open .PDO files natively.

My Silhouette Cameo paper cutting machine works with Mac's but since none of the design software that the bulk of people into the hobby use, even at $29 dollars, and the fact you cannot install OSX in a computer that isn't built by Apple, I don't think it should be considered an operating system really, it should be though of as Apple's Center for Controlling Computers and People .

If they do ever allow it to be installed on a machine other than one they have made, I would definitely give it a try again. It takes too much time for me to go between two different computers, and why bother when I have three that can all run everything I need?

Is it a surprise at any given moment that a Windows based computer OS is the most popular? I think W7Pro is great. It's no surprise to me.

I don't remember that at all to be honest. People were very eager for W7. The only negativity towards W7 I saw was people previously using Vista and hating it and going back to XP.
