US games market slumps as Wii sales tumble

Flagged Wii sales have dragged the US games market down off record highs in 2008.

Sales of Nintendo's Wii games console have fallen for nine consecutive months, significantly reducing its lead over Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360. Monthly Wii sales dropped 38 percent to 1.26 million consoles in November, while the Xbox 360 declined 2 percent to 819,500, according to research firm NPD Group. Meanwhile PlayStation 3 sales leapt 88 percent to 710,400 on the back of  a 25 percent price cut in August.
