US ISPs team up with MPAA & RIAA

Several prominent US Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have teamed up with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to implement a six strikes system aimed at curbing copyright infringement.

AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cablevision have all agreed to participate in a six strikes and you're out system whereby copyright offenders are first warned, throttled, then potentially banned after six 'infringements'.

Interestingly the Center for Copyright Information (CCI) has already acknowledged that certain methods of obfuscation, including the use of VPNs, will allow users to bypass the six strikes system however it seems it's promoters must be after the softer targets.
