Version 34.0 of Waterfox, the faster version of FireFox has been released. The browser is based on the sourcecode of a 64-bit version of the webbrowser FireFox which Mozilla has in development for some time already. However Mozilla never released released a stable 64-bit version of Firefox, here's where Waterfox comes in. The WaterFox project started in March 2011 by the then 16 year old Alex Kontos.

Waterfox is one the fastest browsers currently available, the site lists several benchmarks as proof. Currently the browser is only available for Windows and OS X

A nice bonus when using Waterfox is that it supports all regular Mozilla add-ons but additionally also 64-bit plugins of Adobe Flash, Oracle Java and Microsoft Silverlight. These don't work on FireFox, but do work on Waterfox which should  give them a performance boost.

Besides that Waterfox is 64-bit, the browser is also built with Intel's C++ compiler which, according to the developers, enables them to make the fastest possible web browser without changing too much of the core code. Besides that, the developers also changed some compiler flags in order to try to get the best possible performance.
