Video: an inside look into a SSD manufacturing plant

If you are interested in computers then you've likely heard about solid state disks (SSDs). This relative new technology uses NAND flash memory to store data and has the benefit of being much faster and consuming less energy than traditional hard disks (HDD). Unfortunately they also have disadvantages, NAND memory wears out the more it's used and currently the price per Gigabyte of SSDs is much higher than for HDDs.

Manufacturers of SSDs have been working on improving the lifespan of SSDs and they are now so good that you shouldn't have any issues with normal use. While you  might now understand the benefits of SSDs, you might be interested in how their are made.

SSD manufacturer Crucial has posted an interesting video on Youtube about the benefits of SSDs but also with a inside look into their manufacturing process. It shows how wafers are made and cut in pieces to create the invididual flash chips that are assembled to circuit boards.

It also shows how Crucial tests every chips automatically tested and how humans are responsible for inspection and the final packaging of the drives. Check the video below to get an inside look at Crucial and see how SSDs are manufactured:
