Viking Technology unveils 25TB and 50TB 3.5" MLC NAND SSDs

Viking Technology has unveiled SSDs with capacities of 25TB and 50TB targeted at data centers. The 3.5" form factor SSDs connect to the computer using the 6Gb/s SAS interface and contain MLC NAND.

The drives are part of Viking's Ultra High Capacity (UHC) Silo series and contain planar MLC NAND from SK Hynix. Viking specifies maximum sequential reads of 500 MB/s and maximum sequential writes of 350 MB/s. Random reads are specified at a maximum of 60,000 IOPS and random reads at 15,000 IOPS. Power consumption under load is 16 Watts, while the drives consume 10 Watts when idle.

Viking claims the 50TB SSD is the largest capacity drive currently available. Seagate already announced a 3.5" SSD with a capacity of 60TB but that drive is not available yet.

The company has not disclosed any information on the price of the drives.
