VPN providers give up on circumventing Netflix's geo-blocking

The measures Netflix uses to prevent VPN providers from circumventing its geo-blocks are so successful that more and more VPN providers throw in the towel. VPN providers are losing the cat and mouse game from Netflix constantly and therefore many give up.

A prominent example is that of Australian VPN provider uFlix. They were especially popular in Australia where less movies are available on Netflix compared to the United States, while speaking the same language. With uFlix Australians could also view American content. However, Netflix has been so successful in blocking uFlix that the service has announced it will going to stop supporting Netflix as an unblocked channel.

The VPN provider writes on its website, "unfortunately every time we set up a new network or find a workaround it is getting blocked within hours. Over the last 7 months we have put in a great amount of time, money and energy into keeping Netflix unblocked. We have usually been up and running within a couple of hours of each ban. However, this has greatly drained our resources and our time."

uFlix isn't alone in giving up, more and more VPN providers have discontinued their Netflix support but mostly without a public announcement. Some VPN providers are still hoping to find ways to continue to unblock Netflix but given the movie streaming site's track record, this could be false hope.

Netflix started to intensify its battle against VPN providers several months ago. Mainly due to pressure of rights holders who want to license their content per country. Netflix has stated it wants to license all content worldwide, but it appears licenses per country are more lucrative for the content owners.

uFlix has stated it has added Amazon Instant Video (Prime) as an unblocked channel which according to the VPN provider, has a "great range of content and should help fill the gap".
