Vuzix Wrap 920 3D headset coming to the US

Tech company Vuzix has released another 3D pair of eyewear that provides a 67-inch virtual screen and can connect to numerous popular consumer electronics products.

The Vuzix model is already available in the U.K., but hasn't been released in North America quite yet.

The eyewear is compatible with the Apple iPod, iPhone, portable DVD players, mobile phones (with video out) and digital cameras.  It also can display video from a host source to a 67-inch virtual screen that can be seen from up to 10 feet away.

The headset has been designed  to support both 2D and 3D video formats, and is powered by two AA alkaline batteries.

Vuzix also is working on converting DVD movies into 3D, so that consumers have even more 3D content to play with.

The Vuzix Wrap 920 video eyewear will be released in March or April with a $349.95 MSRP.

I don't necessarily think the Vuzix Wrap 920 is right for me, but I do think it has a rightful place in a growing market of 3D products.

Products like this will remain expensive but will slowly decline in price as consumers begin showing more interest in 3D.  It wasn't long ago when 3D was seen as a gimmick for tech enthusiasts, but it has dramatically increased in popularity recently.  More movie studios are now interested in releasing 3D movies in theaters, while TV manufacturers also gear up for 3DTV production.

Panasonic also opened a 3D Blu-ray authoring facility as it continues to develop 3D Blu-ray players and content.  3D Blu-ray players are now in mass production from many electronics companies, with expected product launches this spring and summer.
