WD officially announces WD Green and WD Blue SSDs

Western Digital today officially announced its WD Blue and WD Green solid state drives, the first WD-branded SATA consumer SSDs. Earlier we reported that the SSDs were already accidently mentioned in an interview.02_bluessd_desktop_hero-jpg-jpg-imgw-1000-1000

Back then we didn't have any details, but we do have now. The WD Green SSDs will be available in capacities of 120GB and 240GB in a 2.5" or M.2 2280 formfactor. WD claims the drives are very energy efficient and specifies sequential reads and writes of up to 540 MB/s and 405 MB/s respectively.  The WD Green SSDs are listed with an endurance of 80 TBW.

The WD Blue series SSDs will be available in capacities of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB and also in 2.5" or M.2 2280 formfactor. The specified sequential read and write speeds are a tad higher with 545 MB/s and 525MB/s respectively.

The WD Blue SSDs are worldwide available right now with  Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) ranges from $79.00 USD to $299.00 USD. The WD Green SSDs should become available later this quarter to select regions. WD has not announced any pricing information.
