From this week all WhatsApp users can make video calls. The phone button in the top right corner of the app, that until now could only be used to make phone calls, can now also be used to start a video conversation. During the call users can switch between the front and back camera of their phone.

Just like text chats, also the video calls are encrypted so it's impossible to eavesdrop on them. Even WhatsApp has no access to the video.

With the  video call feature WhatsApp competes with Facetime from Apple, Duo from Google, Skype from Microsoft and Facebook Messenger. WhatsApp claims that video calls through its service is more convenient because it works on all kinds of devices and even on slow internet connections.
