WhatsApp has released an update to its Android app with a new design. The Facebook owned messaging service has adapted the design of the chat-app to follow Google's Material Design for Android 5.0 Lollipop. The update with version number 2.12.38 is not available in the Play Store.
Users that want the app with revamped user interface can download an APK file from the WhatsApp website. Besides the new design, the app doesn't seem to have received any other noticeable changes.
The update introducing Material Design was expected for some time, the web version of WhatsApp has the design since the start. Although WhatsApp uses many elements, the app doesn't entirely follow Google's Material Design guidelines. While Google prefers a large + sign on the bottom right to open a new chat, WhatsApp has added the button for a new chat in the right top menu bar.
