WIN a brand new Lite-On iHAS524 DVD Writer!

22 Feb 10 15:27 by Bas Jansen in category CD/DVD Writers To news archive

Here is another giveaway for you! This time Lite-On was so kind to offer us three iHAS524 DVD writers, which you can win!

The Lite-On iHAS524 supports 24x DVD±R, 8x/6x DVD+RW/-RW, and 8x DVD+R/DL-R DL writing technology, allowing Double/Dual Layer discs of 8.5GB to be written. The Lite-On iHAS524 also supports DVD-RAM reading and writing at 12x speed, and SmartErase features, and also one of the first drives to feature LabelTag.

Dee wrote an in-depth review on the iHAS524 DVD writer , which she summarized as: “A great feature set and not too many negative points, the Lite-On iHAS524 is generally an excellent drive”. No wonder this drive scored an editor rating of excellent and received our MyCE “Safe Buy” award.

The only thing you have to do is to let us know why you would like to win this Lite-On DVD writer. Let us know below (just reply in this thread – it is that easy!) or send us an e-mail at contest(@)myce.com. You can participate until Monday the 8th of March, and after that we will pick two winners.

LET US KNOW WHY WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECEIVE THIS BRAND NEW DVD WRITER AND WIN!

PS: do you want an extra chance to win this Lite-On dvd writer? Let us know via Twitter why you want to win the Lite-On iHAS524, and increase your chances to win: we’re giving away one additional drive via Twitter only. Let us know via Twitter and follow both MyCE and LiteOn, and you’ll automatically enter the contest.

Cuz my old Liteon burned out a few months ago, and it was the bestest burner I ever had... now I have to burn discs with a lighter instead of a liteon

I have no burner to make my music DVD's so I can become rich and famous and save the world like Bono...

Your decision may change the course of the world as we know it

I have used them in the past when they first came out. The drives went out on me way too soon within a year usually. I have no faith in Lite-On right now since then so this would be a great deal for me to renew my faith in this brand of drive. I have bought about 6 drives in the past when DVD burning was new to all and these brand drives always burned up on me within a year. Renew my faith again Lite-On by allowing me to be one of the winners of this drive and I'll see it is stronger than before so I can purchase more Lite-On brands in the future.

I am in the process of building my ultimate video editing computer. I have already purchased everything except for the optical drive, mouse, and speakers. I am trying to determine which optical drive is the best. If I were to win this drive, I would thoroughly test it and enjoy it. I think that the new label feature may be quite useful as well.

And humble. Don't forget humble.

I already have a new Pioneer standing by if my current Pioneer dies. If it was a Blu-ray reader then I'd be all over this like John Pinette on a Krispy Kreme.

Okay, what the heck. Let's give it a go.

If I were to win this drive I would sell it to buy a Blu-ray drive. No, wait. I mean I would sell it and give the money to cancer research. Yes, that's what I would do.

So, umm... how does this work? You'll mail me the drive?

Hmm, let's see:

My computer is all beige. Such a black drive would be a nice uglyfication of it.
And I can also disable the computer's capability to boot from USB if I install my SiI3512 controller card in order to install that Litey.

Reasons good enough?

Right now, I don't have the capability to burn the dual layers.
Not sure what the advantages are, since the regular disks seem OK after using file compression. Also, the Light Scribe Technology, seems pretty cool. It would be nice to make professional looking disks. I already have a couple of regular dvd burners, and they seem to be doing OK.

I have just started using myCE and it's just great. Helpfull, quick, reall added value.to me as a lay person.
So , the opportunity to win a LiteOn would be wonderfull. It certainly sounds a great product and I could quickly impress my friends with this.
I am genuinely interested and keen to explore what this product could enable me to do. I love great visual quality which I'm sure is in the product. Realiablity is key for me again it's in this product. All in all a top grade product.

Dear Sir or Madam

As an aspiring writer myself, I am interested in your offer because to date all my efforts at writing on CDs have only resulted in scratching them.

Do you feel I should perhaps try another type of pencil?

I think a Lite-On would be right on.

Yours faithfully

Its all about the label tag for me. It is brilliant. I've had disks destroyed because those paste-on labels peel off. And I'm not keen on wasting a lot of expensive printer ink to print labels. The Lightscribe discs just look bad (sorry about that!). All I need is a simple ID that tells me whats on the disk. I don't need to try to be a graphic artist or spend twice as much time burning a label on a disc. Label tag is simply brilliant. Also, I love Lite-ON. I bought three drives for systems I've built and its the brand I now turn to.

I would like one as I am having a VERY bad week. The video card on my main system went out taking they motherboard and psu along with it. My trusty NEC dvd burner stopped burning CDs a couple of months ago to add to the misery. With being out of work replacing all of this stuff is pretty much out of the question for quite some time.

Where are the contest rules? If I'm going to enter, I'd like to know what the rules are. Oh wait—I just entered, didn't I...
Quote:
LET US KNOW WHY WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECEIVE THIS BRAND NEW DVD WRITER AND WIN!
The truth is that I want to receive this drive for the same reason everyone else does—I want it because the price (if I win) is very attractive.

The blurb quoted above doesn't say anything about why I think I "deserve" it, but in the absence of any clearly defined contest rules, and in case it has any bearing on the matter:
• My existing drive makes senile noises—the kind my grandfather use to make.
• I didn't know one of my kids was going to put oatmeal in it.
• The fact that I recently bought and installed a new drive for my wife's computer instead of buying one for myself was not the selfless act it might appear to be; if Mama ain't happy, no one's happy.
• My preferred choice never even gets a chance in ANY political election ("None of the above").
• My research project lost its funding. The banks that issue my credit cards got gazillion$ in bailout money. I didn't.
• There are weasels in my bathtub.

Live long and prosper, y'all.

Why I want a free one - because I can't afford to upgrade my system - had to quit all pay work because of medical problems and damn it gets boring being at home 24 hours a freaking day.

So make at least one day different and give me something for free.

I would really love to win a Lite-On DVD drive for my photo collection.
I am a Grandfather of 6 and Great-Grandfather of two. I seem to be the main photographer in the family cause I just love to photograph my grandchildren's antics and experessions. You know they will never come again, it is such a short window of opportunity that I know just how valueable these pictures will be to my grandkids in the future.
Taking them is one thing, storing and distributing them is another matter. Burning them on to discs insures they will never be lost. I would love to be able to use this Lite-On drive to distribute copys of these pictures to all the parents and children.

A typical name brand disc burner only lasts me a year or two because I burn so many discs not only for myself but for others also and I don't charge them for it either. Sometime though I may ask someone to supply some discs because I am running low on discs at that time but at least 95% of the time I don't because I have plenty, and I have been offered many times compensation for my services but 99.9% of the time I refused it because satisfaction on their part with the burn disc(s) is payment enough, except one time I did accept compensation because if I did not they would have more than likely got mad at me and I have even had a family member get mad at me because I don't except monetary compensation. But even what I did receive got all spent on discs and I have burned well over 1500 discs, and went through at least 2 different name brand super multi-format disc burners in the last couple of years. I am also learning constantly even today on different ways to burn discs like what is the proper speed to burn games, movies etc... or what data type to use in a particular situation. I have also learned along the way a few tricks to bypass certain things that are preventing me from burning things on disc, and from my experience I can usually tell when a disc burner is nearing its life cycle or If somethings defective with the disc burner or disc(s) themselves, so it is a constant learning process with a lot of trial and error involved. I don't ever pay full price for discs because I know now exactly what places have them on sale constantly, and I prefer buying in bulk 100-disc packs(which is the largest pack amount that the store carries) but 50- packs would suffice if there were no 100-packs left, and I usually buy at least 2 100-packs at a time but if I can afford more at that time I will buy more. Which reminds me one time I went to one of these stores and they were getting rid of one of many particular brands of disc media that they sell there, and they were having an unadvertised sale on the particular disc media brand in which I think 100-pack cdr's were $3.50 and 100- pack dvd-r's were like $4.00 and 10-packs of dvd-dl discs with cases were $2.50 per 10 pack(which is cheap considering how much they normally sell for) and I did not really know about the sale until I cashed out, needless to say me and my mother went back to the store the same day and practically bought out the store of that one particular brand that the store was getting rid of, though we left a few for others because we did not want to be complete hogs. I am currently using an hp 24x multi-format(which is the standard for me) burner which is working out pretty good so far though It is a replacement(under warranty for free) of the defective one I got with my brand new computer that I got on black friday of 2009 which was a great deal nonetheless. I have heard good things about the lite-on brand but unfortunately I don't think any retail stores carry the lite-on brand in my area so I have never tried a lite-on brand burner though I am definitely interested in trying one. If I were to win one of the Lite-On iHAS524 DVD Writers, I would be very grateful and would put it through plenty of use and would definitely post a review about it not to long after I started using it and would update the review when necessary.

I had a lite-on CD burner in my dell computer that I got back in the late 90's. When a lightning bolt toasted that PC, I swapped my trusty old Lite-on into my new rig. I then had a stick of RAM go out, and in a rush to finish a video editing project I was working on, ordered a new mobo ASAP, without checking each stick of RAM. Unfortunately, the new mobo only had one IDE slot, meaning I had to give up my old trusty Litey after over a decade of faithful service. If this is a SATA drive, I would very much like to drop it in my case.

I've had great success with the Lite-On name and products. I can't really afford a new dvd recorder at this time, but would love to win this one. Either way, I'm a Lite-On advocate, for life.

He left it on his desk and his dog got to it, He said the dog pried it open and completely destroyed it. D:

I wouldn't mind having another one though since they last so long, and never give me problems.

Since my LDW-811S, I have not had a Lite-On drive. After that drive wore out, I used a Pioneer DVR-109 which just completely died after 4 1/2 years. (Within the last 6 months, I tried a (DOA) Sony and a Samsung which I guess I had bad luck with. The Samsung would work fine if I booted into DOS or Linux, but was useless in Windows!) I would certainly love to try a new Lite-on in my computer.

I have a Samsung 20x drive and an old 16x NEC drive so I'd like to swap out the nec ide drive for a nice new 24x dvd writer. If I were to be selected to get this new lite-on drive I'd offer my nec 3500g to someone since I wouldn't need it anymore. I think its nice to hand down tech to those who can't afford a new one. So, that's it..

They will come up with something else to try to get more people to come here and maybe click on an ad

I'm still thinking of my winning entry before the 8th gets here. It's all in the timing

My younger brother's (non Lite-On) DVD writer died on him a few days ago.

Feeling charitable, I planned on donating my current (and spectacular, might I add) Lite-On iHAS422 to him.

In searching for the newest/latest/greatest Lite-On has to offer, to replace the empty slot that would now be in my computer, I came across the Lite-On iHAS524 - and this thread.

Not only that, but the final day of the contest (March 8th) just so happens to also be on my birthday (I can email a copy of my driver's license to MyCE for proof, haha)!

I'd love to turn my younger brother's misfortune into an upgrade for him, and also receive a great birthday gift as well!

Lite-On DVDs are the best scanners but for some reason they are exremely hard to find in Greece. Usually only older models are available and even those are hard to find. Winning the Lite-On iHAS524 (which of course is not available here) would be a great addition to my pc and a good companion for my trusted (but scanning-impaired) NEC 3500.

I would like to win because lite-on brand drives offers great performance
at a cheap price. I've been looking for a new drive to reply my old lite-on
lh-20a1s drive and think this would make an excellent replacement.

I probably don't stand a chance in you know where of winning because I'm just like a lot of other folk that have old burners and need a new one .I'm 60 years old and in joy listening to the blues.I have a lot of music I haven't heard yet because it's crammed on to dvds that a friend copied for me and would like to put on cds to listen to ,I can't afford to a Ipod or other players. My computer is a 2005 build and a little slow but i do with what I've got.Love the forum it's helped me a few times.

Once upon a time I also used a Lite-On drive. Was a very happy person then. Bad times than fell on my country and Lite-On was no more. Or so it felt to me.
Had to use Samsung drives(couple different ones) till now. Not so happy person at the moment.
I am a sports coach from South Africa. Needs a very good DVD-writer to burn the analysis discs for use by my athletes. I am experiencing a lot of compatibility problems with the current burners. Am using Verbatim DVD's.
I could really do with this quality drive. Lite-On drives are almost impossible to get hold of in South Africa.
Am willing to pay for the postage.

LET US KNOW WHY WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECEIVE THIS BRAND NEW DVD WRITER AND WIN!
Well, first of all I've just reported some erroneus write speeds and other mistaken specs at the product page, I officialy stated I want the device in my MyCE profile, I've just changed my profile picture showing an extatic face like the one I'll have when I win the burner, just in case I've just opened my Twitter account to participate with a second chance, I updated my profile pic there too, showing the real me so mail guy can easily recognize the owner of the new drive... And finally, I'd be so happy to say iHAVE524 with super duper ABS, LabelTag, LightScribe, Seamless Link, SmartErase, SmartWrite, SMART-X, etc. Good enough? Thanks beforehand.

I have been waiting for way over a year for either the iHAS524 or the iHAS624 to become available and have followed the sloooooooowly developing news about delays due to laser components and now that it's here (not quite in North America yet I'm positively bursting with anticipation.
Currently all the DVDs which I produce at events have to be lightscribed which is very time consuming and apparently not a permanent solution as they tend to fade.
So I want one of these right now to produce some labeltagged DVDs and then duplicate to see if only liteon labeltag enabled drives are usable in a duplicator attempting to make copies of our event videos or if once written with a iHAS524 does the disc duplicate with any ole burner It's win win either way because if a labeltagged DVD can't be copied by any other type of burner then there is a neat copy protection aspect to the iHAS524 and its north American version, the iHAS624
These units will free up tremendous time for me in the disc preparation faze. Literally giving me back my life for hours and hours each event

I have been a long time Light-on user and have always had very good luck or shall I say value for my money with their products. I recommend them to anyone who asks me what I use. As a novice user who does quite a bit of burning for family and friends and myself I look for value, quality, and durability. I have all of those in Lite-on and recently I have had to go on disability which has shaken my world in many ways including all of a sudden I have to really watch the money I spend. This comes at a time when I know that I am going to face a burning drive replacement and it would be awesome if I could win this as it would allow me to continue to make the photo cd's and edit home movies for friends, a hobby that is a source of happiness for me. I also would be willing to submit reviews and comments in the use of this drive if I was to win. I know that the determination will be a tough one for those who choose, but please keep me in mind when making that choice. It would be ever so great and I would be ever so grateful.

Thank You For Taking The Time To Read This.

I would like to have this burner myself to run with my existing old Samsung, that I got with my Dell Dimension 4700. I burn alot of pictures and programs for the Boy Scouts as my son is working towards his Eagle. This would really give some new modern life to my old reliable Dell. Probably won't get one, but thanks for the chance. Have a great day...

Simply put, currently i don't have a dvd burner and i need to backup music etc. where i live there is no importer of decent models and manufactures such as Pioneer and Lite on, so it is kind like a russian roulette to buy a decent drive in my country .moreover if i was lucky to find a decent dvd drive (which is very rare)
it`s always very expansive (tax issue).

all in all i don't have a dvd drive , i need a backup drive and i am pretty sure that i wont find Lite-On iHAS524 DVD Writer in stores. i do hope you understand the circumstances and give this drive to to whom is really needs it.

Thank you in advance.

l want to win that brand new Lite-On iHAS524 DVD Writer as the one l am using now has a mind of its own it some times when it feels like it will eject and sometimes it wont most of the time l have to manually eject and close the cd tray and as l am on a disability support pension where l suffer chronic back pain and chronic fatigue, so l cannot afford to get a new one plus the pc is all l have left in life that keeps me occupied in watching movies to playing games and surfing the net.

Thank u for ur time Eagle

All right, it's time to announce the winners!

In cooperation with LiteOn, we went through all your reactions - which were quite a lot - and this resulted in a short list. A computer picked two winners at random from this shortlist.

Therefore, we are happy to congratulate Dragemester and BSCookson on winning a LiteOn iHAS524 DVD Writer!

Thank you all for participating, and be sure to expect more giveaways at MyCE anytime soon!
