Windows 8 is called the new Windows Vista - inside Microsoft

Microsoft employees call Windows 8 the new Windows Vista, according to usually well informed Microsoft watcher Paul Thurrott. He tweeted, "Can we call Windows 8 the new Vista? Not so fast, analyst says. Call it what you want. That's what they call it inside of Microsoft."

A tweet from another user asking if Thurrott meant to say that Microsoft employees call Windows 8 the new Vista was confirmed by him. He also explains why employees call it the new Vista when another users tweets how Windows 8.1 is faster than Windows 7 for him. Thurrott answers with "Right,[for] me too. But that's unrelated to it being the new Vista. This is about sales and market acceptance".

Since it's release Windows 8 has received heavy criticism. The new operating system came with the traditional desktop interface but without the start menu and and a new interface called Metro. The latter was touch optimized and Windows 8 booted to this new GUI by default. Metro never became popular on the desktop and with the recent Windows 8.1 Microsoft added a start menu replacement, the 'start tip' and an option to boot directly to the desktop.
