Windows 8 Store has now 20,000 apps - not close to 100k

Microsoft should have about 20,000 applications in their Windows 8 App Store now, according to the site Win App Update, that has only counted Modern UI (Metro) applications. Microsoft tries to increase the amount of applications in their store by all means as the limited amount of applications is considered a weak point. Other eco-systems like iOS and Android count their amount of applications in the hundreds of thousands. According to Win App Update a lot of new apps have been added in the last few weeks which resulted in the  20,000 applications available world-wide now available. About 87% of the applications is available for free on the remaining paid application Microsoft takes a percentage of the sale.

At the start of November the website counted about 13,000 available apps world-wide which means that in less than a month about 7,000 applications have been added. The language settings of the computer also hide apps not suitable for a certain country and this reveals that in Chinese users have more apps available than in the US, 13,882 vs. 12.675.  Microsoft hasn't disclosed any official numbers but has stated before that it hopes to reach 100,000 apps after three months of the Windows 8 launch. To reach that amount the company will need to show a much bigger growth.
