WZOR: "Our main source of information is Nokia and its partners"

The release of information on Windows 10, previously known as Windows 9 or Windows Threshold,  shows Russian leakers WZOR didn't have access to all important information of Microsoft. WZOR has been known for years to provide reliable inside information on Microsoft products and is maybe even better known for distributing Microsoft software before their official release.

However the leakers were unable to announce the Windows 10 name and apparently this is because Microsoft has tightened its security measures which WZOR reported about several times already. Unfortunately also rumors about the release date of Windows 10 were incorrect, and the rumor that some journalists would already have access to the OS before today, or get access today also appears to be false. Nevertheless, the group was first providing some screenshots and downloads of Windows 8.1 Spring Update and appears to be able to continue to gather Microsoft inside information.

Today WZOR states what their source of information is, "Now I can say is the main source of information for many years for us was Nokia and its partners .." (translated from Russian). Interesting is that WZOR speaks about us (plural). It's always been unclear whether WZOR is a person or a group.

Also interesting is WZOR mentioning its sources are Nokia and partners. In 2011 Microsoft and Nokia unveiled a strategic alliance, Nokia would focus more on Windows Phone instead of the Linux based MeeGo and Symbian. In 2013 Microsoft bought Nokia's mobile phone division to boost Windows Phone adaption.

Even more interesting is that the WZOR.net domain name is registered on an address in Tampere, Finland. Nokia was founded in Tampere and still has a large research facility over there. Also the technical university in Tampere delivers a lot of new Nokia employees. WZOR has always stated the domain name is in control by a friend, but the fact that friend lives in Tampere and Nokia has facilities there is a striking coincidence.

Although Microsoft is tightening its security measures, we've never seen so much leaks as with Windows 9, erhm Windows 10. WZOR remains a valuable source of information and a lot what the Russians have posted still has the potential to be true, like the pricing information. Besides information coming from WZOR, a lot of information also leaks from China. Combined the sources provide enough information to get early access to a lot of details on upcoming Microsoft products, so stay tuned!
