'Xbox 720 can't play games from discs' - but has a Blu-ray drive

The new Xbox stores all games on its hard disk and while it has a Blu-ray drive,  the games can't be played from a DVD or Blu-ray disc. The device will also support always-online functionality. The information comes from the website VGLeaks. They obtained documentation of the development kit of the Xbox 720, also known as the Xbox Durango. The document describes that the Xbox 720 does have a Blu-ray drive but that it can't be used to play games from. The drive has a novelty, it allows gamers to play a game during its installation.

The new console will also support different power states that make it possible to leave the device on all the time. Software updates will be downloaded in the background and when Xbox 720 isn't used. This way there is no waiting time for the downloads of updates and applying them. In the unattended state the console consumes only a little bit of power and takes care of the updates and restarts the console when necessary. This makes sure gamers don't have to wait till an update is finished.

According to the documentation the Xbox 720 will also feature a new type of  Kinect sensor. The technology of this sensor has an improved depth, infrared light sensor and a wider viewing angle. This makes it better suitable for smaller rooms, with less light. The information has not been confirmed by Microsoft but VGLeaks is a proven reliable website for this kind of information. The information in the documents is about a year old so Microsoft so the final Xbox 720 might be different.
