YouTube and Hulu lead the way as most-watched online video providers

New data from digital research firm comScore confirmed what most already knew: people love watching videos on YouTube.

According to the site, Google's user-fueled video depot helped garner nearly 22 billion views for the company last month, with more than 157 million unique viewers tuning in for an average of eight hours - or one full workday. Combined with other popular video destinations, and that number balloons to 24 hours.

Putting those figures into perspective, comScore revealed the total U.S. viewing audience and views for December: 182 million and 43 billion, respectively. The tally counted U.S. home and work locations but dismissed ads, said comScore.

Meanwhile, Hulu played the underdog card. The streaming TV service ranked only eighth among the 10 competitors in unique viewers (31 million), but fared much better in accrued video views, grabbing the third place spot with almost 777,000. Those who tuned in stayed for an average of three hours. Hulu also handily led the ad impressions category, with 1.5 billion airing for the month.

Music video site Vevo turned in strong showings across all three sections, keeping the average viewer's attention for just over one hour.
