YouTube gets family-friendly "safety mode"

In an effort to shield innocent eyes, Google has introduced an opt-in censorship tool to block "potentially objectionable" content.

The new safety mode will allow users with Google or YouTube accounts to activate content filtering with password protection. Comments on videos will also be hidden by default. Users can choose to view them, but "objectionable" words will be censored.

The safety mode opt-in link can be found at the bottom of every YouTube page. Once engaged, safety mode will also censor search results - although this is flagged in red. The filtering also applies to related videos, featured videos, most viewed and videos being watched now.
