Conclusion

Positive:

retailing at under thirty dollars it is the least expensive commercial DVD copy software available

         very good quality

         exceptional transcoding times

simple to use, even a computer novice should have no problems using this software

does not require any additional cost in a program to defeat the CSS copy protection

Negative:

         no shortcut placement option

can only set maximum size to 4380 MB when at least 4460 MB would fit and increase quality

bug that did not allow us to change the DVD±RW drive used for burning (only a possible issue if you would like to use more then one DVD±RW drive)

can only select slow medium and fast burn speeds instead of being able to select the exact burn speed desired

no option to cut out unneeded credits to improve quality

         help file is extremely sparse

no method to split very long movies over two blank single layer DVD’s

Conclusion:

In our opinion 123 Copy DVD successfully accomplished what it has stated.

The most powerful yet, easy to use DVD backup program available ever.
Burn, baby burn! With 123 Copy DVD’s easy to use interface even the newest computer users can make backup copies of their DVD collection in 3 simple clicks of the mouse.

Although dual layer looms on the horizon, there are still many people interested in the economical advantage of using single layer media. Software like 123 Copy DVD will still be required for some time to come.

The one negative area we would like to see changed the most in a future release would be the burn speed options. Although user friendly; the fast, medium and slow speeds are far too limited in our opinion. We were also concerned with are the bugs we encountered when performing this review. Bugs however, can be a highly system specific issue and 123 Copy DVD was quick to attempt to fix the problem once it was reported. Overall most people should not encounter any of these problems and 123 Copy DVD now has a free demo version you can try that will alleviate any fears you may have with this before purchasing.

Besides the points listed above, most of the negatives have been attributed to the lack of advanced options. Anyone that has been backing up DVD’s for a long time may not approve of the simple interface or the lack of options, but that is not what this software has set out to accomplish.

This program is the easiest to use commercial DVD copy program I have tried yet. With a retail price under thirty dollars, it is also the most reasonably priced. What impressed me the most was how it accomplished these goals without sacrificing quality or speed.

If you are looking for a great price, matched with ease of use, you would be hard pressed to find something better to suit those needs.

Trial version: FREE (download at the 123 Copy DVD website)

Excellent review! Very thorough! I have to say, though, that there's another bug that I've contacted the company about. After installing the product, in Windows Explorer (the file manager), volume labels don't show up anymore. In other words, if you have a CD titled "MyStuff" and you put it in your drive and open Windows Explorer it won't show "MyStuff (D" anymore; it'll show the generic "DVD-RW Drive (D" instead. I really dislike this, because when I place a CD or DVD in the drive I expect to see the volume label name; it's how I confirm I've put the right disc in the drive. Uninstalling the software doesn't fix this problem; I had to use System Restore to get correct volume label operation back. I also notice that any discs with autorun exe files no longer function. You will have to start such discs manually. The e-mail I sent to the company was met with a response saying support for 123 Copy DVD has passed to another organization, Globalstar Software (at www.globalstarsoftware.com). The strange thing is, Globalstar appears to be a game company and the web site doesn't present any support options for 123 Copy DVD. Me thinks the original manufacturers of 123 Copy DVD were sued out of business. So for any newcomers to this product, I'd suggest, if you're going to run it on a regular basis, that you create a System Restore point (and give it a specific name), install the product and run it, uninstall it, and then run System Restore to go back to the point you created previously.

I used 123 Copy DVD for about a month after some problems with installation. I had to swap my cd burner with dvd burner in as drive D to get it to work after reading cd freaks artical about not seeing the second drive. After a month I got a software update from 123 Copy DVD and the program would not reconize my DVD burner. I emailed tech support and after sending them computer information they responded,Sorry we do not garantee the program to work with your DVD burner, see list of supported drives. I have a fairly new NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG. For some reason it did work for a month and quit after the update. Since then I have found free software that works much better called DVDSHRINK. 123 COPY DVD need to support newer drives. :r

I tried to use this program. I dont know why it copies only movies without menu and any other things on DVD. :c. When you try to play it any DVD player it begins directly the movie.

I bought 123copydvd because on the product box it says it will copy any dvd. Their claim holds no truth. I tried to back up some movies and was able to back up about 70% of them. I wrote to tech support, and one time they ask me to download a plugin, and another time I had downloaded their upgrade. The result was that it was no better. And last time I wrote to tech support I did not get any response. I cant put all the complaint on the faulty claim 123copydvd makes. I have to put some on myself. I bought the software from Circuit City after reading the good reviews of people who dont know what they are talking about. So now I will only accept the reviews of the proffesionals like PC magazine. They recommend DVDcloner4. But dont take my word. Do your own homework.

I have a friend who has 123 copy dvd. I use Nero along with dvd shrink. He is constantly having me copy movies for him, because his 123 copy dvd won't do the job. When it does do the job, the quality sucks, and it doesn't include the menu due to size compression.

I installed the trial to see for myself if it hold their claim. The program finds the source Drive but not the destination (DVD burner) drive. I was really excited about this product and ready to stop by Office Max to purchase it (I don't like to purchase downloads). Still, searching for the DRIVE F, please insert Disc... I'm glad I saved a trip top the store and my money is still in my pocket. :r :r

This program works. If your experiencing problems its because you messed something up! The program has copied any new release without fail (even double layered) This program is not a waste of money and in fact is simple to use and works without making any adjustments!! If your trying to use it and it wont copy the dvd try burning only the movied to a single layer if ther is enough room!!

WRONG. This product is a piece of shit and does not work. All I get is error messages. Support is useless. I tried both their "fixes". When I buy a product I want it to work right out of the box. I do not expect to waste my time trying to get their product to work. That's not my job! Support says now; "We have found the cause of this error and have fixed the issue, which will be available in our new release shortly. I am very sorry for this inconvenience", but they won't respond when I ask when to expect the "new release" Since I bought this at FRYS I am now stuck with a $30 pice of worthless plastic. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON COPY DVD123!!!

I bought 123 COPY DVD at Walmart during Christmas 08, so it has not been removed from the shelves. I also have had the company send me an opportunity to upgrade to Gold for 9.99. I was going to do this because it started out working fantastic and then problems arose. I contacted the company and they replied that it might be because I had multiple burners on my computer and I should disable them. I have had no luck since. I really don't like the fact that they won't give a phone number. My recent problem with it is that it copies the warning label and the start up, but nothing after that.

Horrible product with no tech support. I purchased mine at Office Depot in October 2008, so its definitely on the shelf. I had the same problem as one of the other users did when prompted to burn the copy onto an empty dvd, error message would pop up saying it couldnt' find the .ifo/s, whatever the hell that is... I now have a bunch of dvds that wont play and i started on my old 5 yr old pc and now have tried it on a atate of the art newly built unit. The program sucks ass!! Buy this if you plan to be pissed off!!

Program is great, the only way you would have a problem is if you dont know how to use a computer. Installed it then updated and i have never not been able to copy a dvd, with out the menu features. My thoughts, great program even though its not free its legit
