Hantech Markus 800 media player

On configuring the various settings and being returned to the main menu I subsequently went straight to the network icon. This happens because no other resources are attached over USB or we not use an internal drive at the moment.

The Markus 800 browses the network much in the same way as you would with a PC. Firstly you are presented with a list of available nodes on the LAN – I chose my DS508 Synology server. Once your chosen node is selected the device browses the node to ascertain what shares are available. At this stage I could see all my shares that were available on the NAS, but upon selecting a share, HD Movies for instance. The Markus was capable of reading the main shares from the NAS but failed accessing the actual data folders beneath, likely caused by erroneous Guest and Public access handling. (No other players have issues with this except Conceptronic CFULLHDMA from the long list of players tested to date). I suspect auto browsing is responsible somehow as all units failing use the auto detection of devices and shares on the network while all others use “pre-configured” mappings setup by the user.
The Markus 800 has no ability to enter user credentials and we feel media player providers seriously have to remedy this issue as it provides for a reasonable security concern and back door for hackers.)

During browsing, we noticed the Markus 800 does not detect the network devices upon entering the menu. In all cases we tried, we had to click the refresh button before the devices are detected. The interface shows no items while the LCD shows one so the sync between both on-screen menu and the LCD seems erroneous at times.

The Markus 800 is capable of detecting both SMB and NFS shares which is a must with HD content on the older chips. The navigation pain is not that nice (does not match the player) but overall, it takes you where you need to go.
