Features and techniques:

Now it’s time to take a closer look at the write technology used by the LITE-ON SOHR-5238S:
CD-Recordable:

| CD-R | Supported | Write | Start | End | Average | Write |
| Lite-On | 52x | CAV | 23.37x | 52.48x | 39.77x | 2m:31s |
The LITE-ON SOHR-5238S uses CAV, (Constant Angular Velocity), to write at its maximum speed of 52X with CD-R media. This gives an average speed of 39.77x.

The Lite-On SOHR-5238S Uses P-CAV, (Partial Constant Angular Velocity) to write discs at speeds of 24x ‘“ 32x with CD-R media. This gives an average speed of 29.08x at 32x burn speed.

The LITE-ON SOHR-5238S uses CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) to write CD-R and CD-RW media at speeds of 16X and below.
CD-Rewritable:

The LITE-ON SOHR-5238S uses ZCLV (Zone Constant Linear Velocity) to write CD-RW media at its maximum speed of 32X. This gives an average of 27.97X
| CD-RW | Supported | Write | Start | End | Average | Write |
| Lite-On | 32x | Z-CLV | 16.05x | 32.11x | 27.97x | 3m:28s |
Now that we have examined the drives features and writing technologies; it is time to move on to some tests. In the next page we will be testing the drives disc reading ability……
