DVD+R9 DL Writing performance

 

DVD+R Double Layer writing speed and compatibility:


The Memorex DVD+/-DL4RWlD2 supports the DVD+R9 DL standard for writing Double Layer discs with a size of 8.5 GB at a writing speed of 4x.

Let’s find the manufacturer and media information too, for this we will use DVD Identifier 3.6.2

Testing procedure: We wrote a DVD ISO image in Nero 6 using the Disc-at-once writing method: Below are the results:


Verbatim media

The Memorex DVD+/-DL4RWlD2 used 26 minutes and 46 seconds for writing the media at 4x. Let us take a look at the K-Probe result:

The layer break causes problems. Now it’s time to take a look at some reading tests with various DVD-Writers.

The Memorex DVD+/-DL4RWlD2 reading at maximum of 6x has no problem but the  Plextor PX-712A reading at up to 12x shows problems at the layer break but is able to finish.

Let’s compare the Memorex DVD+/-DL4RWlD2 with other DL capable drives.

The DVD+R9 DL media (Book Type: DVD-ROM) was tested for playback compatibility on the following players:

  • Pioneer DV-656A
  • SONY Playstation 2

Compatibility results:  

Both devices played the Memorex DVD+/-DL4RWlD2 burned DVD+R9 DL media without problem.

Summary: Very good quality on the Verbatim DL media. Good quality on the Ritek DL media.

i wonder which drive this would be able to crossflash to? 1673s/93s?

It will crossflash to 1693S, now it supports DVD-R9 DL!:B

I cannot back-up data to an external cd using my cd-rom reader. I get message on my screen saying "Back-up not ready". Staples where I bought the pc said my rom may not be connected. What connections are required to back up info on a cd.
