Tools and Extras

NTI CD & DVD Maker suite comes with a good number of “Tools and Extras”; these will be found by clicking on “Tools” on the programs main window:

The first tool we will look at is the “Erase Re-Writeable Disc” tool:  We have the option for both the Quick and Full Erase features.

We then opened the “Disc Info and Tools” tool where we will find this box contains informational fields about the disc, including its Medium Type, Capacity, and Free Space.

Drive Properties Tool:  The Drive Properties dialogs display the read and write capabilities of the selected drive. You can also set the Audio Extraction Speed for a drive using this dialog. The Drive Properties can be displayed by clicking on the Drive Properties… item on the Tools Menu or clicking the property sheet button to the right of the drive selection control. The Drive list will contain all CD/DVD drives attached to your system.

JewelCase Maker

JewelCase Maker supports LightScribe technology that allows users with LightScribe-enabled devices to print labels directly onto LightScribe discs.  JewelCase Maker is an easy-to-use utility that allows you to create and print your own CD labels and jewel case inserts as easy as one, two, and three…

Wave Editor:

Wave Editor is an easy-to-use utility that allows you to cut and paste sound clips and add various effects to your wave (.wav) file library.  Wave Editor can perform the following effects:

Trim – The trim effect allows the user to remove silence that occurs at the beginning of a track. The Amplitude Threshold sets the lowest acceptable level of sound.  Anything below this threshold is considered silence and will be removed.

Normalize – The normalize effect scans through the entire track and adjusts the volume range to highest acceptable level without distorting the sound.

Fade – The fade effect allows the user to add a fade in effect at the beginning of the track and/or a fade out effect at the end of the track. The fade in effect will slowly increase the volume for the duration of the time range. The fade out effect will slowly decrease the volume for the duration of the time range.

Echo – The echo effect allows the user to add a preset or user defined "echo" with or without a feedback loop to the wave file being edited.

Filter – The filter effect allows the user to specify the highest and lowest acceptable frequency and converts the track accordingly.

Amplify – The amplify effect increases the overall volume of the track based on user preference. You can amplify the volume of either the entire track or a selected portion of the track.  In addition, you can choose to amplify either the left or the right channel independently.

Once you have your wave file exactly the way you want it you can convert it to other formats like MP3 or WMA using CD-Maker or other file conversion utilities.

AVI to MPEG Encoding:  Is available only if you purchase NTI’s MPEG-2 Encoder Plug-in from our web site to create an MPEG-2 file.  As of the date of this review the plug-in was available for purchase at USD $15.00.
