Reading performance

For these tests we will use Nero CD/DVD-Speed to read various DVD-media. As already mentioned in the introduction, this drive supports:

  • DVD-ROM (SL) at 16x
  • DVD-ROM (DL) at 8x

DVD reading performance:

We will use Nero CD-Speed to measure the reading performance, this time for various types of DVD discs. The drive should read pressed single layer DVD-discs at 16X.

DVD ‘“ DVD-Video:

For our DVD reading performance tests we are going to start with a single and dual layered DVD video discs. While only 1X speed is required to watch DVD movies, it’s useful to be able to read the discs at higher speeds if you’re going to extract (rip) the content of the disc to your hard drive.

DVD-Video Single Layer

DVD-Video Double Layer

As we could see the drive can read Single Layer DVD-Video at full speed (16x), and Double Layer DVD-Video at 8x. To see how the transfer rate is on a Data DVD we used the ‘Half-Life 2 DVD-ROM:

As we could see, there are some problems at the end of the disc. We would also like to mention that firmware US05 and previous could not read or recognize the German Half-Life 2 DVD-ROM, but this was fixed in the firmware US06.

@fugutive, ratdvd has nothing to do with shrink, decrypter, anydvd et.al. - it compresses a dvd video_ts folder to app. 50% of its original size. it's very useful for transferring full dvds to your "friends" on the net.
