Sony Slim-Line DRX-S50U Review

DVD-R media compatibility and write quality:

In these tests we will be using a Lite-On SHM-165P6S drive along with K-Probe to measure the disc quality. We will also be using the NEC ND-4570A or BenQ DW1655 along with Nero CD-DVD Speed for our read-back tests.

The Sony DRX S50U burned this test media with excellent results. 

Overall the DRX S50U burned this test media with good results.

Here again the DRX S50U burned this media with very good results.

This Sony media burned with excellent results with the DRX S50U.

As expected, an excellent burn with this TY media.

As you can see from the high PI errors and PIF towards the end of the burn coupled with the failed TRT, the DRX S50U does not fare well with these 8X Maxell media.

A high PIF spike of 5 but overall a good burn.

The DRX S50U had some difficulties with the TRT towards the end of the disc.

DVD-RW media compatibility and write quality:

For this test we used the same testing procedures as in our DVD-R tests.

This Verbatim media produces very good quality burns.

The Sony DRX S50U burned our RiData test disc with very good quality.

Summary:

The Sony DRX S50U has written to our DVD-R/RW test media with good to very good quality with the exception of the Maxell 8X disc.
