Other features

Let’s now take a look at some of the other features supported in TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress.

Batch processing:

Running the batch processing tool allows several tasks to be run in sequence. After all the tasks are added the will run automatically.

In the above screenshot we can we have added two files for batch processing.

Our above screenshot shows the batch processing in action, this worked flawlessly.

Slideshow:

TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress also supports picture slideshows. This feature allows pictures in different formats to be encoded into any of the video formats that TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress supports.

In the above screenshot we have added some pictures to our slideshow. Picture transition effects are also supported.

To make our slideshow more interesting we also added some music. The slideshow feature worked well and we soon had our project encoded into a DVD video compliant MPEG 2 data stream ready to be authored.

MPEG tools:

This set of tools comprises of an audio multiplexing utility and de-multiplexing tool to mix or separate audio from a video clip.

The Multiplexer tool was used to mix two files together, in this instance mixing a video file and audio file into one clip with both audio and video data.

The de-multiplexer tool is used to create a separate video and audio file.

Both tools worked as expected.

This concludes our TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress review.

One of the few Apps that i have paid for because it is that good. I bought it recently when they had a $20 reduction in price for a month. Don't know if the sale is still on.

I have been a long time user of TMPGEnc's products. I'd have to sat version 4.0 is a HUGE disappointment. The new file formats I wanted (divx and h.264) take longer to encode than many free alternatives on the market and produce terrible quality output compared to other tools at the same bitrate. To top it off the avi files from my miniDV camera which encoded fine with version 3.0 don't encode properly with version 4.0. Every time I get a green screen flashing up at the end of my MPG file. I've contacted their support about all of these issues. They have been of little help (when they've even bothered to respond). I've even offered to provide them with sample clips I've produced with their product and other tools to show them the problems. They have shown no interest in even seeing these clips. I would recommend v3.0 for MPEG-2 encoding, but stay away from v4.0. It just plain sucks.
