The name ADATA is known to everyone that is
a PC enthusiast, also MyCE members would remember the ADATA
SP900
SSD review. So let's take a quick look at ADATA.

ADATA was founded back in 2001 by a group of
people that wanted to make the name ADATA the leading brand with regard to
memory products. However ADATA has a variety of products, from SD cards and USB
flash drives to SSDs. You can find out more about ADATA on their website.

Having robust and high quality products is
one step closer to ADATA’s aim, but they also have innovative products in various
categories that they always aim higher with. One of these products is the ADATA
DashDrive Elite, the DashDrive Elite (or HE720) is the thinnest external USB3
drive that you can find. The drives is only 8.9mm thick but this is not the
only thing that separates this drive from the others, the drive also has
stainless steel covers and it’s scratch resistant.  So now the ADATA DashDrive
Elite needs to prove that it can also deliver the same high results on our test
bench.

ADATA was kind enough to lend us the
DashDrive Elite USB3 500GB external hard drive for an in-depth review. So we'll
take a look at the performance of the drive, but first let's start with the
packaging and the closer look at the drive itself.

A first look at the drive and its specifications

First a visual inspection of the package
and the drive.

Simple, stylish and informative. These are
the words that describe the front of the package.

On the back of the box you will find the
specifications of the drive, the system requirements, and the package contents.
Also you will find the info to download the free backup software, the info regarding
the three year warranty, and some interesting facts about the drive. Firstly is
the slim design of the drive, it’s only 8.9mm, and secondly the stainless steel
housing of the drive.

Looking at what's inside, you will find the
drive, a USB3 cable, and a quick start guide.

The
front of the ADATA DashDrive Elite is very stylish, in the middle you will find
the brand logo and the model, and at the bottom there is a blue LED that
flashes when reading or writing, and stays on when the drive is powered.

Not
much to see on the back of the ADATA DashDrive Elite.

On the rear side we find the Backup button
that can be used with the backup software that you can download from the ADATA website
which allows you to backup your data directly to the hard drive, and also you
will find the USB3 port.
