Test machine
For this review we will be using two computers with the following configuration:
Review PC #1:
· Motherboard: Asus P5K Deluxe WI-FI/AP
· Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe @3.70 GHz
· Memory: 4x 2GB A-DATA PC2-6400 DDR2
· Video: ATI 2600HD Pro HDMI
· Display: Hanns·G HG-216DPO 21.6″ 5ms Widescreen HDMI LCD
· Sound: SoundMAX Digital HD Audio (Onboard)
· Hard Disks: 2x 320GB – 1x 750GB Seagate SATA-II
· Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 is installed on this machine.
Review PC #2:
· Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5
· Processor: Intel i7 920 @ 4.0GHz
· Memory: 3X2GB G-Skill DDR3
· Video: eVGA GTX 260
· Display: 24″ Acer HDMI LCD
· Sound: Realtek ALC889A HDAudio (Onboard)
· Hard Disks: Seagate SATA II 320GB
· Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 is installed on this machine.

We will be using the following software in this review:
- Nero 8.1.1.0 Ultra Edition Enhanced
- Nero CD/DVD Speed
- Nero InfoTool 5.1.0.0
- DVDINFOPro HD
- K-Probe v2.5.2
- Exact Audio Copy V0.95 beta 4
- DVDFab 6.0.1.0
Editors note: During all of our testing we will be using the Digistor DIG-78102 with the “Single” USB cable to gauge how the drives integrated Li-Polymer battery performs.
Installation and Supported Features:
The installation was flawless; we plugged in the drive using the supplied USB cable and the drive was instantly recognized and ready for use.

Now let’s take a closer look at the writing technology of the Digistor DIG-78102:
8x CD-Recordable:

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses CLV (Constant Linear Velocity), to write at its maximum speed of 8.01X, this gives an average speed of 8.01X.
8x CD-Rewritable:

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) to write CD-RW media at its maximum speed of 8.01X, this gives an average speed of 8.01X.
8X DVD+R writing speed:

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses Z-CLV (Zone-Constant Linear Velocity) to write DVD+R at the maximum supported speed of 8X. This gives an average write speed of 5.36X and a writing time of 12 minutes 09 seconds.
8X DVD-R Writing speed:

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses Z-CLV (Zone-Constant Linear Velocity) to write DVD-R at the maximum supported speed of 8X. This gives an average write speed of 5.35X and a writing time of 12 minutes 47 seconds.

4X DVD+RW writing speed:

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses Z-CLV (Zone-Constant Linear Velocity) to write DVD+RW at 4X. The average speed is 3.79X and total writing time is 15:22 minutes.

As you can see from our graph the Digistor DIG-78102 does perform quite well even though the maximum writing speed is only 4x.
4X DVD-RW writing speed:

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses Z-CLV (Zone-Constant Linear Velocity) to write DVD-RW at 4X. The average speed is 3.75X and total writing time is 16:48 minutes.

The Digistor DIG-78102 supports 2.4x writing speed on DVD+R DL media.

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) to write DVD+R DL media at 2.4X which gives an average write speed of 2.38X and a total write time of 44 minutes and 30 seconds.
2X DVD-R DL writing speed:
The Digistor DIG-78102 supports 2.0X writing speed on DVD-R DL media.

The Digistor DIG-78102 uses CLV, (Constant Linear Velocity) to write DVD-R DL media at 2.0X. The average speed is 1.99x and the total writing time is 53 minutes and 25 seconds
