Media sharing, torrent and iTunes

Since the LG N2A2 NAS is a home user targeted NAS system, it offers some really nice features which are worth having a look at.

Media sharing

The LG N2A2 NAS supports the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standard which should make it very easy to share the content of the NAS to all other DLNA certified multimedia devices in the network. There should be nothing more to do than activating the DLNA service via the web-menu of the LG N2A2 NAS.

DLNA activation

DLNA can be activated via the configuration menu in the web-menu of the NAS. By default the content of the Multimedia folder will be initialized, but other folders can be added by the user as well.

After the DLNA service is started, the NAS starts initializing the content for DLNA. It may take some time until the process has finished, but once it’s done, the content can be viewed at any other DLNA device. I tested the usability with my WD-TV Live HD media player.

LG N2A2 NAS access via media-player (DLNA enabled)

As you can see in the picture above, the media-player has no problem working together with the LG N2A2 NAS, streaming video, pictures and music works without any problems. Streaming a movie while another user accesses the NAS and copying their data onto it is also no problem, the LG N2A2 is powerful enough to manage these tasks without problems.

Now let’s have a short look onto the torrent feature…

Torrent

Downloading files/programs via torrent is an important thing for many users. So why should somebody leave a PC powered on for downloading when the NAS has also such a nice feature. The torrent feature of the LG N2A2 NAS is not activated by default, once more we must activate the feature via the configuration menu in the web menu of the NAS and once again, it’s a pretty easy task to activate the feature.

Activate torrent in web menu

After activation, the torrent downloader can be accessed via the web menu and downloading files can be started.

This feature also performed pretty well in our tests. There’s nothing we can complain about.

iTunes server

That you can access your music from everywhere seems to be expected when you use a NAS device. The LG N2A2 NAS also offers a feature called iTunes server, activating this feature allows you to access the music that is stored on the NAS via iTunes. Once more it’s very easy to activate.

This function also works without any problems, iTunes immediately detects the LG N2A2 NAS and all the music is accessible via iTunes, even playlists are visible and viewable.

Now let’s check out the webaccess, FTP functionality and more…..
