TikTok Has Been Deleting Profiles…Why?

Yes, there have been some very serious frustrations with TikTok fans, as the app has currently been deleting videos and accounts. This is for all users who are under 13 years of age. This is being done in order to protect the privacy law of children.

After their FTC settlement, TikTok was forced to change its terms as per the children’s Online Privacy Protection Act or the COPPA that starts the minimum age requirement to use the app. For now, you will need parental approval to create an account with TikTok if you are under the age of 13.

TikTok is not alone in this though. Almost all social media platforms have an age limit of 13 years for you to use the app, and they have a complicated parental consent process.

When Did This Happen?

This has been happening for a while, since February 27 of this year. If you mistakenly entered the wrong birth date and the system recorded you as being under 13 years, your account has also been deleted.

TikTok has been issuing people solutions on Twitter, although users have been reporting plenty of issues when trying to find help with this.

A twitter user has been advising people to use a copy of their Government-Issued ID in order to prove their age. Others are advising that you should describe the problem you are having on the “add an email” section within the app.

Will You Receive a Response if You Complain?

Sometimes. There are users who have reported receiving a response from TikTok that had an attachment which contained video links. This email recommended that the users should copy all the links and then attach them to a downloading software and then download them at once.

If this file cannot be opened, you could install any other media player. YouTuber – Living with Perks’ daughter, recommended to people to use the Chrome Extension in order to recover the video files. It is however unclear whether you can recover a deleted account.

What Can Younger Viewers Do if They Still Want to Use TikTok?

Please note that, TikTok has introduced another version of the app that caters to users who fall below the age of 13, but most of the features, such as video uploading and commenting have been removed. There will also be some very strict filtration of the videos that they are allowed to see.

If you want to use this version, go to the “Younger Ecosystem” portion of the app. You will be able to watch the videos that have been curated for younger people.

Another reason for having your account deleted by TikTok is violating their terms of service. This includes posting content that is either spam, copyrighted, pornographic, or has hate speech. These are not allowed whatsoever on the platform.

Conclusion

While most people complained about having their accounts deleted, an even bigger issue has come up with TikTok. Countries and their respective governments are re-evaluating if they should ban TikTok completely or not.
