Bittorrent Sync 2.3 released, adds Encrypted Folders and running as a service

Bittorrent Inc. just announced a new version of their peer-to-peer file synchronisation application Sync. Today's release brings the version number to 2.3 and  introduces Encrypted Folders, running Sync as a service in Windows and more.

The Encrypted Folders feature offers the ability to hold data encrypted at rest. So people using Sync in conjunction with a cloud service can now nest an encrypted Sync folder in the cloud, allowing Sync to be "always on" and secure

By running Sync as a service in Windows it's now easier to run a Sync server that's always available. The service is active in the background even if there's no user logged in. Another new feature is the ability to move data from and to an SD card for devices that run Android 5 or later. More new features can be found on the Sync 2.3 announcement.

For those who don't know, using Sync it's possible to transfer files between devices, where size doesn't matter. That's possible because the application doesn't use the cloud to store and transfer files, files are directly synced between devices. Because there's no cloud provider in between the transfer should be up to 16x times faster than using a cloud service.

Sync works on all major operating systems for the desktop, mobile and also supports many NAS devices.
