BeAll adds extra Megabytes to DVD recordable media with Extreme eXtended media

South Korean company BeAll has announced that it will start shipping 4x DVD-R recordable discs to which consumers can record up to 4.85 GB of data or 124 minutes of DVD video. This an increase of 0.15 GB when compared to regular 4.7 GB DVD recordables.

Most companies are currently competing by increasing the speed of their media and BeAll is the first company that start to compete with others by increasing the data capacity without compromising on compatibility and the need to purchase a new DVD recorder. The company ensures that compatibility will be as good as with current DVD-R discs.

According to the company the same trick is not possible on DVD+R discs. BeAll, which is a Samsung Electronics spinoff has been working on this new development for about one year and will be shipping the discs starting from the 20th of September in Japan at an open price.
