DVD recorder prices to drop making way for newer models

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that it looks like set top recorders are about to go down in price. According to DigiTimes, there is a bit of a lull out there in the sales arena. Then in addition, it seems some new models are on the way too. So, it's time for a little consumer enticement program.

Taiwanese manufacturers of DVD recorders, in response to worse than expected demand and the approaching launch of new models equipped with built-in hard disk drives (HDDs), will reduce their domestic retail quotations for entry-level models from US$ 239-249 to US$ 179-199, according to the makers.

Lite-On IT, BenQ, Mustek Systems, Tatung and Sampo, are intending to start producing recorders with hard disc drives in the next 90 days, some have indicated that they will start as early as August. They figure that the older DVD recorders without a hard drive, could take the place of DVD players.

Thanks for the news Gristy, we appreciate it.
