Developing story: giFT vs. The Qube

Earlier today we posted about TheQube that claims to support multiple filesharing networks, and well it does. But one claim is not right and is currently hurting development of the latest filesharing technology and their network: giFT and OpenFT.

The giFT developers found their OpenFT network flooded by outdated TheQube clients that were connecting to the giFT network. As giFT is in an early alpha phase (but very promising) it was not prepared for this 'attack' here an explanation of the developers:

Let's set something straight:

In this corner we have giFT, giFT is a daemon which can handle plug-ins for different p2p networks and provides a XML-like interface
for front-ends to talk with. giFT is cross-platform compatible.

Currently there's only one network plug-in giFT uses, OpenFT. OpenFT is a p2p network which takes all the good things from FastTrack and
adds some more. But, giFT isn't FastTrack, like our name previously said.

giFT and OpenFT are in development. That means it's only usable for developers and testers and it's very important to be up to date
because we don't want any inconsistencies...

You can read more about giFT at http://giftproject.org, make sure
you do read the documentation if you want to use it.

Ladies and gentlemen... give it up for giFT!

Now... in the other corner there's Qube. Qube is a Windows application clearly written by some clueless 14 old. It claims to provide access to KaZaA with OpenFT or something. First of all, this is not correct, since OpenFT has nothing to do with KaZaA/FastTrack but is a _new_ network. Secondly, to provide that access it ships
with a compiled version of giFT. This version comes with OpenFT revision 0.0.1, which is not used anymore.

As said before, giFT/OpenFT is in development and not even ready for a public beta release. We state this very clearly, but still Qube
has ignored the developers. Besides that, by shipping a compiled version of giFT/OpenFT, Qube infrigments the GPL. Qube has absolutely no legal ground to stand on...

To have access to OpenFT, you _need_ to have 0.0.2. Whatever Qube claims, you won't have real access to OpenFT.

Ladi... *BOOOOOOH!*

Eelco Lempsink - giFT project

We wanted to get this clear to anyone who is currently using TheCube software, cause it's a big problem for the developers of giFT.

They have taken actions to stop this software developers but he didn't want to cooperate. You can also be sure that the final version (which won't be out in the coming months) will be able to handle this bad stuff...
