German music industry to sue MP3 uploaders

The German computer magazine
PC
Welt
reports on their website that the German
music industry starts sueing individuals who - in their opinion - uploaded
MP3 files to the internet.

It is
known that according to copyright laws it is forbidden to provide illegal
music files on the Internet. Up to now german P2P users were not of
interest. But now things have changed.

They have accused Rainer Ké¶nig being one
of the responsible persons for the now closed link exchange mp3network and
to be responsible for illegal sharing of music titles by uploading
them.

The court in
munich decided that the preliminary injunctions against Ké¶nig were
correct. If the judgement against him will be approved, he will be faced
with enormous costs. EMI might request compensations of about 300,000
Euro.

If you are familiar with the German language you can read Ralf
Ké¶nig's point of view on his website. He
will probably only be the first one in Germany, other's will probably
follow.

You may certainly discuss this topic in our Music Downloads, P2P & Legal Issues Forum.

Unfortunately there is no legal alternative for downloading music files via
the Internet in Germany yet. Maybe the music industry should concentrate on
prodiving such a service before sueing individuals for uploading music
files.
