Krauss-Maffei unveils process for faster production of HD discs

Krauss-Maffei is a well known company that specializes in plastics processing technology, injection molding and extrusion equipment. In this report from PRW, we can read the announcement of a new temperature control process that promises the best of both worlds; faster cycle times with increased quality. If this is indeed accurate, it may have a nice impact on production costs that would eventually trickle down to us consumers.

The company has developed the patented PowerPulse Dynamic Temperature Control (DTC) system, which is used in the Futuremold III mould series for optical discs. The system can be used to convert existing KM production lines to HD-DVD production, and also makes it easier to produce Blu-ray discs, KM said.

DVD-R 8x discs, produced on KM lines with the overburn function, can be burnt at a high level of quality up to 16x with the new technology, according to the company. The increase in quality is largely thanks to precisely controlled mould temperatures.
