In the competition between the next generation optical formats, Blu-ray and HD-DVD, it seems that there will be no winner, in the same way it happened between "plus" and "minus" DVDs.
In fact, Lite-On IT announced today its support of both new technologies:
The BDP-X1 (for Blu-ray playback) and the HDP-Z1 (for HD-DVD playback) will be presented for the first time as pre-production samples at this years IFA show in Berlin. |
There is still not a a single player able to read both formats, but Lite-On IT already is in the market of Blu-Ray with the Blu-ray triple writer drives LH-2B1S (internal) and LX-2B1U (external). Both drives are backwards compatible with DVD and CD formats.
Will we also see an HD-DVD writer from Lite-On? Until now, there are no indications for this, but in the meantime, you can read more in the original article here.
