Lite-On to release 8x dual format and DVD+RW drives in October and November

Two days ago we reported that Lite-On has announced the LDW-401S a 4x DVD+RW drive. A Lite-On employee also reported that this drive is probably flashable to a DVD-RW/DVD+RW with a simple firmware update. Today Digitimes reports more about this drive, but also adds intresting information.

The
company would release 8x dual format and DVD+RW drives in October and November.
The announcement comes soon after the announcement of Plextor 8x dual-format DVDRW drives.

Lite-On IT plans to launch half-height 8x DVD+RW and DVD-Dual drives in October and November, respectively, before the introduction of its first external slim-type DVD-Dual drive in December

The company has also said it is expecting from major PC manufacturers. Which means that the company might be in the race to supply OEM drives for e.g Dell, HP and/or Gateway.
